Bathroom Designs – An Electrifying Bathroom

Take a look at the image below. Bit, well, weird, isn’t it? It looks faintly malevolent, like something sprung from a torture chamber or an unhinged scientist’s basement.

It is in fact an early electric bath. Yes, that’s right, an electric bath.

Of course, to our savvy modern ears, the concept seems utterly ridiculous, not to mention intensely life-threatening. This was used, so articles say, to cure all manner of ailments, from STDs to diarrhoea! Needless to say, the medical logic behind this is now seen to be little more than quackery.

That is not to say that the combination of electricity and the bathroom has been a wholesale disaster over the years. As we have moved into the 21st century, we now have a number of great options that give your bathroom fittings a spark (sorry). Below is a non-exhaustive group of practical, aesthetically pleasing electric bathroom design ideas.

Bathroom Designs – The Reflection Section

The idea of introducing electric to bathroom mirrors would seem eminently sensible and practical, but it also serves a wonderful bathroom design function too. Backlit mirrors have become commonplace now, and I think they are great for shaving especially, as when I wield a something with that sharp an edge close to my face. I like to be able to see as much of what I am doing as possible.

For truly classy style though, I really do promote LED mirrors to the front of the queue. These have sidereal arrays of lights studded into the surface of the mirror, the dazzling effect amplified by the glass itself.

Bathroom Designs – Electric Heat

Electric radiators have something of a reputation for being energy-intensive and, thus, are extremely expensive to run. The practicality of these units has never been in doubt, allowing you to directly and acutely heat one area quickly and easily, but the weighty bills held people back.

Designers and manufacturers have recently turned their attention to rectifying this, and have produced a range of increasingly efficient technologies that mean the expense of an electric radiator or towel rail is no longer crippling.

Bathroom Designs – (Electric) Power Shower

Perhaps the most convenient of electrical bathroom designs is the electric shower. These showers quite literally give you hot water on demand, without the frustrating annoyances of taps and non-thermostatic valves. These use electric elements to heat water as it goes through the shower itself, ensuring the absolute correct temperature and flow as and when you want it. Despite being renowned for their rather tacky plastic casings, there are some extremely stylish electric showers available, as the below image demonstrates.
