When it comes to bathroom suites, the toilet is about as humble as a bathroom item can be. I mean, it isn’t in any sense a glamorous role is it? What is a fact is that the role it performs is essential, and thus anything as important as a toilet really does require more thought than you might initially imagine.

First and foremost, you are going to want to get the absolute maximum lifespan out of your toilet as you possibly can. This cuts down not only on the hassle of replacing your unit, but the inherent costs involved in having to do so. One way in which to guarantee yourself longevity is to assess the quality of materials your toilet is made from. Any one ceramic may seem like any other, but different variations under this umbrella definition offer more. A good example is White Vitreous China, an extremely hardwearing ceramic that has the added bonus of giving off a wonderfully bright, white finish. We use that on all our ceramic items, with no exceptions.

The next thing to consider is more aesthetic in nature. Toilets tend to come in two fairly broad styles: namely, close coupled toilets and back to wall toilets. Close coupled toilets have their cistern and pan ‘closely coupled’ (apt name, isn’t it?) and exposed.

As a general rule of thumb, the tighter together the two components, the more contemporary a design you are seeing. A close coupled toilet is generally a more of a traditional choice, however.

A back to wall toilet is something different. With this shape, the cistern is secreted behind a wall panel or special cabinet. This leaves just the pan visible, making for a wonderfully streamlined, minimalist look. It also helps with storage in your bathroom, as many cisterns are concealed in specialist cupboards with extra space for packing away your bathroom accessories.

So, you’ve got choice, quality and storage, but you shouldn’t stop there. There are plenty of added extras you should also keep an eye out for. One great feature our toilets possess is a dual flush capability. Now, at first look, this doesn’t seem too eye-catching, but when you become aware of how this reduces water wastage it becomes more interesting. This is because the knock-on effect of this is a reduction in your water bills. In essence, your toilet starts helping to pay for itself, leaving you feeling a bit flush (ahem).

As one last point, all BathEmpire’s toilets adhere to Water Regulations Advisory Scheme standards, a welcome external guarantor of safety and quality.

So, as you can see, there is plenty more than meets the eye when it comes to picking a toilet. For more details on our toilets, click here to read our ‘Toilets Maintenance Guide‘.
